Hi Robert,

When I installed the service, I too got only the computer info and no instances and databases.
I was glad I found this thread, but unfortunatly no reply ...

I started the service in debug mode and captured the error:

Thanks for installing the SqlMonitoring tool.

The setup shouldn’t be a problem. I haven’t put the most try/catch effort in the client. The most crashes are due to missing information. Is this on startup? Or when you navigate to one of the menu’s?

Could you check the windows eventlog for more information. There should be an entry there.

Windows 7 Enterprise 64
Files were copied in
Config file was edited

FQDN of Server A was used as the ConnectionString

Workstation Session Login is SysAdmin on default instance of Server A, and in the db_owner role of the SQLMonitoring database

Similar client error occurred when trying to run the client on Server A with a Domain Admin Login

Any ideas?

This my first attempt at running SQLMonitoring Tool. Client gives "stopped working" error at startup.

Database was installed on Server A

Hi, I didn't find the quickstart guide in the download mentioned on the home tab. Did I just miss it or should I be looking for the quickstart guide somewhere else?

Yes,

it seems that there is an issue on getting some instance information. Can you provide me the exact error. To do so follow these steps:
1. Stop the service
2. Start a cmd box
3. Navigate to the folder where you have placed the sqlmonitoring tool
4. Start the monitoring with: sqlmonitoring.service.exe -debug

This wil show up errors that are not logged in the errorlog. One of them must be very quick and shows an error when connecting to the instance. As a result of an error when connecting or getting information from the instance(s) the other instances as well as the databases are not shown.

On the other hand it may also be a failure within the client. To check this start SQL Server Management Studio and navigate to the database. Get the data inside the SqlInstances or SqlDatabases table. If this table shows you all the information the problem lies in the client. I will check in the current database schema to see of there is a problem in the stored procedures.

I cannot reproduce this on a stand-alone Windows 2008 server. Could you perhaps paste in the installlog or just the error of it's in there. To test this on a 2008 cluster I would have to create one, not a big problem but it takes some time.

I did not receive any attachements. As stated in the note from codeplext "Images and attachements will be removed from emails."

I cannot reproduce this on a stand-alone Windows 2008 server. Could you perhaps paste in the installlog or just the error of it's in there. To test this on a 2008 cluster I would have to create one, not a big problem but it takes some time.

Thank you for your reply. Here is the command I used to install the service:

C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\V2.0.50727\installutil.exe SqlMonitoring.Service.exe

When I ran this, a pop-up requested a service account login and password to which I replied:

domaingroup\account
*****
*****

This account is in the local administrators group and also has SA privileges on SQL Server. I've attached both logs for your review.
